For many of us having a cool breeze blow on us while we sleep is a great way to reduce stress and get a restful night sleep. In order to achieve this we can have an open window, turn on a fan or better yet, have a ceiling fan installed that will keep the air circulating in the room. To install a ceiling fan you can do it yourself or hire electrical contractors in Hicksville, NY to assist you.
How to install a ceiling fan?
Step 1 – Decide where you want to install the fan. The ideal spot is on a beam that runs perpendicular from your wall so that it can hang directly overhead. You will need to measure and mark exactly where the ceiling joists are before you get started.
To figure out what size of hole you will have to cut in your ceiling you need to know the distance between the top of your fan and bottom of your ceiling.
Step 2 – You will need to hire an electrician to cut a hole in the center (between beams) of where you have marked for your beam. This hole should be about 6 inches by 8 inches, depending on the type of ceiling fan that you bought. The size of the hole may vary depending on the brand you purchase, so it’s best to check with your manual before focusing on a specific size.
Step 3 – Once you have cut the hole for your fan, mount your ceiling box in that place between beams. Install from inside the attic and then drop down through the center of your hole.
Step 4 – Hang the support bracket on your ceiling box and attach it to the hanging rod of the fan using a washer and nut for each screw you use. Make sure that you mount this bracket in a spot where it is not touching any wires or other items in your attic space.
